The municipality of Tangalan is the first town in Aklan to allow female Local Government Unit (LGU) employees to work from home for two days during their monthly period.
After being signed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) last December, Ordinance No. 2022-214, shall take effect this February.
Furthermore, the said ordinance entitled “Menstruation Day Privilege” was sponsored by Vice Mayor Gene T. Fuentes and co-sponsored by Sangguniang Bayan Member Edina T. Gelito which encourages other LGUs to do the same.
“I’ve noticed that often, I’m not happy with the services the female employees of the municipality provide their clients. When I asked, I learned that they are not in the mood because they don’t feel well during their menstrual cycle”, Vice Mayor Fuentes stated.
Moreover, women can suffer from menstrual cramps, headaches, and bloating during their menstrual cycle, and under this ordinance, they are excused from filing for a leave of absence.
